Visit of Representative John Shimkus

2011-09-23

The Embassy of the United States of America in Lithuania is pleased to announce the visit of Representative John Shimkus (Republican of Illinois), from September 25-28.

Representative Shimkus will be leading the first-ever U.S. Department of Commerce certified trade mission to Lithuania. The trade mission will seek to put U.S. companies together with Lithuanian companies in several different business sectors.

During his visit, Representative Shimkus will meet with several senior government officials. He will also have an opportunity to speak to students at the Jesuit Gymnasium in Vilnius about his experiences as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives. In addition, Representative Shimkus will be able to preview the exhibit on the "20th Anniversary of the Restoration of Diplomatic Relations Between the U.S. and Lithuania," on which the U.S. Embassy and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs are cooperating. This exhibit will be officially opened to the public in early October.

In his meetings, Representative Shimkus hopes to consult with Lithuanian government leaders on a range of mutual interests given Lithuania’s current chairmanship of the OSCE, and its significant contributions as a NATO ally and EU partner. In that context, this visit will promote continued, strong political, economic and people-to-people ties between the U.S. and Lithuania.

For any further information on this visit, please contact Jonathan Berger, Counselor for Public Affairs at the U.S. Embassy in Vilnius, at +370-687-33879.
