Ryanair responds to minister's comments in Lithuanaia

2013-04-26

Ryanair, Europe’s only ultra-low cost carrier (ULCC), today responded to criticisms from the Lithuanian Minister of Transport, Mr Rimantas Sinkevičiu, who had sought to remind Ryanair that it ‘has to understand it is not operating in the ‘Zulu Kingdom’’.

Responding to the Minister’s comments, Ryanair’s Deputy Chief Executive, Michael Cawley, said:

“I regret that Minister Sinkevičius has used this emotional language in his response to our recently announced reduction in services at Kaunas Airport.  I have today written to the Minister inviting him to meet so that we can convey our proposals directly to him.  Ryanair has the highest regard for Lithuania and its aviation services and in particular for its new Vice Minister, Arijandas Šliupas, with whom we had the pleasure of working during the establishment of our base at Kaunas Airport.

Ryanair will continue to work with the Lithuanian Government to facilitate growth in aviation at both Kaunas and Vilnius airports so that this sector of the economy can play a leading role in underpinning economic growth in Lithuania.”
